SCARFL: Batemans Bay Seahawks

Bateman’s Bay Seahawks Media Release March 2010
Seahawks win pre-season clash.

The Bateman’s Bay Seahawks have recorded a hard fought seven point win over the Bomaderry Tigers in Nowra last Saturday. Coach Brett Pedder used the practice match to trial a number of new recruits to the club as well as a number of last seasons juniors who are ready to step up to first grade for 2010. Mr. Pedder says the team is focused on exacting revenge for last years Grand Final loss and he says the weekend’s trial fixture provided a good solid workout for the team.
In the meantime Seahawks President John Veneris says the club is pleased with the progress being made on the playing surface at Hanging Rock. The Seahawks, Eurobodalla Cricket together with Eurobodalla Shire Council and the AFL are working together to ensure the ground will be ready for the Seahawks first home game against Narooma on April 24th and up to the riggers of the Sydney Swans Reserves v Eastlake clash scheduled for August. He says the ground will be ready to play on in about a fortnight. The club has a working bee scheduled for 9am tomorrow at Hanging Rock.

Diggers News - 24/03/2010

Firstly, we’d like to congratulate Harry P (Peterson) for being named AFL Auskicker of the month (for those you haven’t seen today’s Merimbula News Weekly). It’s a fantastic effort from the amount of entrants from throughout Australia. He wins a trip to Sydney for their game against St Kilda this Saturday night, plays @ ½ time in that match and is interviewed by Channel 10 on the night, but, that’s not all. He (and Mum..!)..get to go to the AFL GF, be a part of the AFL GF Parade, again play @ ½ time and present a premiership medallion. So, well done from all @ the Merimbula Diggers Harry, have fun and enjoy yourself.

A further junior and Auskick registration night is on Thursday the 25h of March at the Berrambool rooms from 5.00pm to 7.00pm. The cost for junior registration is $25- and for Auskick $50- (which includes the AFL Auskick package).
The proposed Senior practice match against Orbost for this Saturday has been cancelled due to lack of available players

To have to cancel the game due to lack of No’s reflects were we are at presently on a senior player level. To have won the senior GF and been runners-up in the reserves last year, then, for the 1st practice match not to have enough players for the one (1) game only is extremely disheartening. We have the same regular players committing to training and the club and they are always prepared to raise the hand. We shouldn’t rely on those who have always been there in the past, it’s time for a new people and players to stand up and be counted. We urge everyone to get along to training and support YOUR club.

On a further positive note, it was great to see at training on Monday night the amount of kids on the ground, from the U17’s to the 12.5’s. With the Auskickers to start next month, we look forward to the whole of Berrambool oval being full of committed and enthusiastic kids loving AFL football. Keep up the good work boys.......
GO DIGS!
